과목마다 차이가 있지만 대략적으로 2시간 30분에서 3시간 정도 소요된다. |
| 문제형식 |
시험은 과목마다 문항 수, 유형이 조금씩 다르다.
모든 AP시험은 주관식 문제와 에세이 형식, 혹은 문제 해결 형식의 주관식 문제로 구성된다.
또한, AP미술과목의 경우, 학생들에게 작품 포트폴리오가 요구되기도 한다.

| 일정 |
5월 첫째 주와 둘째 주에 시험이 끝난 후, 6월 중에는 주관식과 포트폴리오의 채점이 대학교수들과 AP 프로그램 교사들로 이루어진 채점 단에 의해 진행된다. 주관식 채점은 미리 구성된 채점항목과 학생의 답안을 비교하며 이루어지며, AP시험의 결과는 7월 중 학생 및 학생이 속한 고등학교, 그리고 학생이 지원한 대학교에 통보된다.

성적 확인 후, 지원할 학교에 성적을 리포팅하는데 리포팅 하는 데 드는 비용은 소요되는 기간에 따라 달라진다.

추가 리포팅의 경우 기간은 1주일 정도 소요되고, 추가 리포팅의 경우, 2일정도가 소요된다고 한다.
시험 후 9일 이후 신청 혹은 4건 이상 리포팅 시 추가 비용 건당 US $15 빠른 리포팅을 원할 경우 서비스 비용 US $25을 지불해야 한다
